Upgrading the VMC iPad App
How to update the Visitor Manager Central app
Visitor Manager Central releases new versions of the iPad kiosk app on a regular basis. The updates may resolve bugs, improve features and add additional features.
You will always have the latest web dashboard, there is nothing to update.
You can enable auto-updates on the iPad (settings app) or update directly from the app store. If you have any issues, close the Visitor Manager Central app and restart your iPad.
Note: you may need to enable location services and camera access again in your iPad settings app so Visitor Manager Central works correctly.
Ensure you do not accidentally upgrade to untested or unsupported operating system versions.
Before updating your operating system ensure Visitor Manager Central app is compatible with this version (check with us or take note of the description in the App Store).
VMC App Update Guide
Please follow this guide carefully to ensure your Visitor Manager Central iPad application and web Dashboard are updated correctly.

IMPORTANT: Your iPad will need to restart once iOS has been updated. Allow your iPad to restart, make sure it is connected to Wi-Fi and fully charged.
Default iPad settings may cause issues with the performance of Visitor Manager Central, specifically the on-screen keyboard. Delete all other apps the iPad will allow you to, do not run other apps in the background.
Important: Once you have removed the Visitor Manager Central app, updated the iPad and prepared it for using Visitor Manager Central restart the iPad again.
The Apple App store should always have the latest version of Visitor Manager Central available. Check to ensure you are viewing the latest version of Visitor Manager Central on the Apple app store before installation.
The first time you launch the new Visitor Manager Central app you will be presented with the login screen but do not login yet. We need to verify the correct app is installed.

If all steps above are completed, you can now load your desired kiosk.
If you cannot see the kiosk you wish to load use the Refresh function on the top right corner of the screen (blue refresh icon).

Important: Please complete a full test of all functions to ensure its operating correctly as you would expect.
Please note the steps in this guide must be followed carefully or you may experience the following issues when attempting to use the system.
If issue arise from the update it’s likely one of the steps above was not performed correctly. The most common problem is not deleting the Visitor Manager Central app and restarting the iPad before installing the new update.
Deleting the app first will clear any settings or caching from the iPad app and memory and prepare it for a fresh install. Visitor Manager Central does not operate like other iPad apps, it uses systems resources for performance and security.
If you print badges you will need to setup your printer again, you should not need to reconfigure the printer itself.
We recommend setting up a brand-new kiosk to replace your old one. This will give you the opportunity to discover the new Kiosk Designer and powerful visitor flow options. The new designer also has some great new templates and design options, it’s a revolution in visitor management for your organisation.
If you load the app and its stuck on any screen, its likely you did not delete the existing app first or you have an old version of the iPad or iOS. You may need to upgrade your device. Also check the iPad settings and ensure Location Services is set to Enables/Always.
If you cannot locate your kiosk in the list tap the blue REFRESH icon at the top of the screen.
Contact Visitor Manager Central support, so we can assist you. Be sure to leave your contact information, company and the issue you’re experiencing.

Visitor Manager Central Web System Requirements
Learn about what system requirements you need to correctly operate the Visitor Manager Central web dashboard
Visitor Manager Central is Software as a Service delivered via your web browser and connected to a Free iPad application. The Visitor Manager Central web dashboard is used to configure your visitor management system customise the iPad application.
There is no software to install onto your local computers, all that is required to run Visitor Manager Central dashboard are the following
You don’t need a powerful super computer to run Visitor Manager Central. All you need is a computer or hardware device with a modern web browser installed. We do the rest our end!
Visitor Manager Central works very well in Chrome and just as well on most other web browsers. It even works great on your iPad or smaller screen devices that have a mobile browser.
We recommend Chrome, Firefox and Safari over Internet Explorer (IE) (in that order), especially older versions of IE which we understand some of our customers may be stuck with. For Visitor Manager Central, it’s important to know not all browsers are equal. There are a few reasons for this.
Chrome currently has a 59% market share (globally), Firefox 25%, and Internet Explorer (only) 9%. So for us and you, it make sense we focus on these top tier browsers.
If you still need to use Internet Explorer we recommend IE 9, 10 or 11. All main Visitor Manager Central features work on IE 8, but user experience is less smooth due to the older technology of this browser.
We do not support Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8 as they do not integrate modern technologies used by Visitor Manager Central and have security issues. Please make sure Security Settings of IE are not set to “High”, as this will prevent Go Reception from functioning properly. IE Privacy settings need to be on Medium-High or lower.
Guided Access Mode for iPad
Guided Access limits your iOS device to a single app and lets you control which features are available.
WARNING – THIS FEATURE IS CURRENTLY BROKEN ON iOS 12.x
Apple are aware of this issue and are yet to resolve it since the release of iOS 12.x, it is a known issue that causes the iPad to sleep when in Guided access mode after 15 minutes.
Guided Access limits your iOS device to a single app and lets you control which features are available. You can turn on Guided Access when you let a child use your device, or when accidental gestures might distract you.
Visitor Manager Central iPad Configuration
This guide will explain how to configure a new iPad for use with Visitor Manager Central. This assumes your iPad is brand new and ready to begin the process.
Unboxing and setting up a new iPad (or an old one) with Visitor Manager Central is quick and easy. This guide will give your visitors a much easier sign in experience and will ensure the system performs best with the Visitor Manager Central app.
Not everyone has used an iPad before, so we want to configure the device to make it as easy as possible for the first-time user. Making it easy, makes it memorable.
Note: this article covers settings for all iPad models, the same settings apply to any iPad you use with Visitor Manager Central.
Your iPad package will include the tablet, charger and charging cable. You will need all of these items.
A new iPad will need to be setup first. Follow the on screen prompts to configure your iPad, if you are using the iPad for Visitor Manager Central only we suggest these setup options.
Before continuing, check to make sure that your iPad is running the latest version of the iOS operating system. To check this go to Settings app then General > Software Update. If a new version is available then proceed with the update. The iPad will usually restart after an iOS update, if not then restart it yourself.
Remove and delete all other applications from their iPad that will not be used. This reduces the amount of memory used on the iPad and also stops any apps running or updating in the background.
To remove an app directly from your iPad, press the icon on the device for the particular app you wish to delete until all of the icons on the screen start to wiggle. Once they are wiggling you will also see the symbol appear in the upper left-hand corner of each icon as shown in the image below.
Our suggestion is to delete EVERYTHING that allows it except for Find iPhone or Find iPad app if you want that security measure.
Now start working through each of the settings below. Open the Settings app.
The Visitor Manager Central app also has night or sleep mode built in that works with iOS. You can access this from the Visitor Manager Central iPad app’s Settings tab after you login.
With night shift this might cause some issues with apps including logging them out. Keep an eye on this and if it becomes a problem disable it.
Once your iPad is setup open the App Store app and follow the on-screen prompts. Search the app store for “Visitor Manager Central” and locate the iPad app.
When the Visitor Manager Central App is installed open it and login following the prompts.
The Visitor Manager Central iPad app requires location services to be enabled “Always” and access to the iPad camera. If the Visitor Manager Central app does not prompt you to allow these services, please do the following.
